Group One Planning Solutions (GOPS) is a Financial Planning services company that has evolved over many years to provide sound financial services and advice to our clients. It began on a cold day, Dec 13 1976 when Bob White started in the life insurance business. And has evolved to become a family business with both Wife Pat and daughter Shannon.
We have grown, adding more professionals to our GOPS Family to better serve you and your families in the future.
We are a team whose main objective is to serve our clients, their families and businesses with the highest degree of integrity and honesty to help them achieve the financial solutions to their ever changing needs today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
Each Team member brings their own unique specialty and delivers talents to the team to enhance the quality of service we provide for each of our clients’ individual life style needs.
Our Goal: Working to achieve the best possible results we can for our clients, based on the information provided and within their means. To help them achieve what they envision for themselves, their family and their business, through the use of sound and proven planning strategies and techniques.
Robert N. White, CLU
Financial Advisor
Bob started his career with Metropolitan (MET) life on Dec 13 1976, and worked with MET for 15 years both as an insurance advisor and a branch manager. He spent 1 1/2 years in a large general insurance agency building the life insurance and estate planning dept. He then started a company called Page and White Financial services working in all aspects of insurance and financial planning.
In May 1997, Manulife Financial convinced him to be their advanced marketing manager in the BC interior, assisting other advisors on more advanced insurance, estate, and retirement planning cases. When Manulife made some significant corporate structure changes in Nov 2001, Bob resumed a full-time role of financial consulting, forming Group One Wealth Strategists, an association of 5 advisors. In October 2004, Bob and Pat formed Group One Planning Solutions Ltd., a company focused on providing the best possible advice and financial solutions for their clients, their families, and their businesses. His goal is to build a financial planning company with highly skilled advisors who have specialized areas of practice.
Bob is a three-time past president of LUAC (now Advocis Canada) and has chaired numerous positions over the years with the association such as education, ethics, programs, Executive committee member of the National Advocis school in Kelowna. A Rotarian of 11 years serving the community both locally and internationally.
In 1997, Bob obtained his CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) designation, which today can only be achieved after obtaining a CFP designation. Bob is a member of the Kelowna Estate Planning Society, comprised of accountants, lawyer, trusts, and portfolio managers. Bob currently practices in all aspects of financial income, insurance, and retirement. Today Bob spends more time with income tax and Estate Planning.
I love what I do! I enjoy helping people better understand the choices they can make and what it will mean to them. I believe in – it is not what you make that counts, it is what you get to spend! So “Plan First… Invest Second”.
Patricia White
Office Administrator
Pat is the co-owner of Group One Planning Solutions, along side her husband Bob White. Her role at the office is mostly behind the scenes.
She manages all the bookkeeping, payroll, managing staff, and organizing client functions. In 2018, Pat started to semi-retire so that she can spend more time with her grandchildren and golfing.
“My biggest joy besides my family is my dog Chance, then golf! We have a small office with a great team of specialists that allow Bob and I to take more time away from the office to travel and golf.”
Tami Knopp
Marketing Assistant / Client Services
Tami has been working with us at Group One since 2015. Her primary role is Securities Administration and obtained her Mutual Funds license in 2018. This has enhanced work relationships with clients in many ways! Tami has gained great knowledge from her past career experiences including Life Insurance Agent; Legal Assistant; and small business Bookkeeper/Office Manager.
Tami and her family moved to Kelowna in 2010 from the Red Deer/Edmonton area. Living the Okanagan life, you will find them out; camping, hiking, ATVing; or simply enjoying a patio beer at one of the many up and coming breweries.
“Most people dream of retiring to a beautiful place such as Kelowna but also sometimes wonder if retirement is even in their future or how to get there. Having said that, I truly believe in planning for your future today! The book of life is hectic and throws us curve balls at any given time, we need to make sure our friends and families are prepared for these with the proper tools from full comprehensive planning. I have had the great pleasure of joining Bob and his fun professional team in 2015, we have amazing clients and I am always excited to meet the new!”
Duncan McIntyre
Mutual Fund and Insurance Representative
Duncan started his financial career in 2001 when he finished the Canadian Securities Course with Honors. Duncan went on to further his education in Business Administration at Okanagan College and later received two diplomas (General Business and Financial Services Diplomas). He received his Life Insurance license in 2005 and his Registered Retirement Consultant in 2011. Duncan left the business briefly in 2018 and returned to the business to help his father (Richard McIntyre) in 2020. Richard McIntyre sadly passed away in December of 2022 and Duncan assumed control of the business in January of 2023.
Duncan enjoys Skiing, Surfing, Golfing, Travelling, Biking, and Weight Training. Duncan also is an avid gardener and spends most evenings in the garden. Duncan was born and raised in Kelowna and has many friends and family throughout the Okanagan that he loves to spend time with.
Duncan currently practices in all aspects of financial, income, insurance, retirement and estate planning. He loves to help people achieve their investment goals through careful planning and financial solutions.
Julie Burgess
Marketing Assistant
Julie is a versatile Marketing Assistant known for her client focus and attention to detail. With a background in finance and 15+ years of experience, Julie has gained valuable knowledge of the industry.
Her ability to understand client needs, communicate outcomes and execute activities, sets her apart.
Outside of the office, Julie is spending time with family, her dogs Nessie & Zoey and enjoying the outdoors.
